Starting this June!

​Calling all theatre beginners! Join The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati for our one-week-long, themed summer camps!  No audition required.

Our three camps in June offer day-long training and enrichment in acting, dance, and voice, with professional teaching artists as instructors.

Sessions are available for 6 to 9-year olds and 10 to 13-year olds each weekday from 9:30 AM to 4 PM at our brand new facility in Hyde Park on Red Bank Road.

TCT Summer Camp: Pirates and Princesses

June 13-17, 2016

9:30 AM to 4 PM

Every kingdom needs a princess to govern the land. But what happens when pirates plunder the princesses perfect plan? Be a part of our Pirate and Princess Camp, where pirates pillage and princesses preserve. Drawing from the vast library of pirates and princesses in musical theatre, the TCT staff will have you swashbuckling like a Jack Sparrow or protecting your domain like a Princess Fiona!

TCT Summer Camp: Fairies and Wizards

June 20-24, 2016

9:30 AM to 4 PM

Whose magic is more powerful? The dainty sprite-ness of a fairy? Or the deep mystical aura of a wizard? TCT illuminates the world of magic in our Fairies and Wizards camp. With music, activities and games inspired by the magic of musical theatre, TCT will create a world of sorcery that would make Harry Potter jealous!

About Our Teachers

Katelyn Altieri (Music Theatre Dance, Creative Toddling)

Katelyn Altieri Katelyn Altieri, a senior (soon to be graduate) at Northern Kentucky University. She will be receiving her degree in BFA musical theatre. Hoping to go on and teach once she graduates. She has been in past productions of Seussical the Musical as a Giraffe  (NKU) Les Mis as a lovely lady  (NKU) Swan Lake as Rothbart (Inbocca Performance) Evil Dead as Shelly / Annie (Village Players) Batboy the Musical as Shelly Parker  (Falcon Theatre) and Legally Blonde as Gaelen (NKU). 

Brandon Bentley (Drama Workshop)

Brandon Bentley

​Brandon Bentley is a recent addition to the Cincinnati area originally hailing from Big Stone Gap, Virginia. He studied in a B.F.A. Musical Theatre program from Emory & Henry College and was mentored by professionals from Barter Theatre of Abingdon, Virginia. Brandon has been acting professionally for the past 15 years with his roots beginning in outdoor drama of the Appalachian Mountains and Flat Rock Playhouse in North Carolina. Since moving to Cincinnati three years ago, Brandon has been seen on stage at the Carnegie doing such productions as Carrie: The Musical, The Addams Family, and Sweeney Todd. Other favorite shows include those of the Children's Theatre of Cincinnati such as The Snow Queen, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR., and The Day Before Christmas. You can find him on Northern Kentucky University's stage this summer doing The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee with the Commonwealth Theatre Company! Brandon's dream is to one day work as an actor, educator, and director with a resident theatre company or several different companies in an area. He's proud to say, he's currently fulfilling that dream.

​Education: MFA with Merit in Musical Theatre - Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Honors/Magna Cum Laude BFA Musical Theatre/BFA Acting- Pace University in NYC. Favorite credits:  The Addams Family (Alice) at the Edinburgh Fringe winning Best Performance in a Musical, Company (Jenny u/s) at Lincoln Center starring Neil Patrick Harris, Chautauqua! at The Public Theater, The Girl Who (Matchmaker), Merrily We Roll Along (Mary)- which will be featured in the upcoming Documentary entitled “Our Time,” Kiss Me, Kate (Lilli/Kate), The Syringa Tree (Elizabeth), The Beggar’s Opera (Lucy), and most recently Disney's The Little Mermaid JR. (Ursula) here at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati… Now you can see Bethany directing, choreographing, and teaching for multiple institutions. She recently made her New York directing debut with The Girl Who at the Infinity Repertory Theatre.

​Allysun Mellick is a recent graduate of NKU where she has a BFA in Musical Theatre. Currently, she is working with the Commonwealth Summer Dinner Theatre where she will be playing Rona in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. She has a lot of experience working with children.  For the past two years, she has worked as an intern at Uptown Arts and a Tour Guide with Community Connections at NKU.  She is very excited to work with The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati!

Jacqueline Smith

​Jacqueline Smith moved to Cincinnati in 2012 after graduating from Miami University as a Theatre major and Business Management major. Jackie has been involved in the area as a Teaching Artist at The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati, The Carnegie, Drake Planetarium, Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati, and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park (CPIP). Other theatrical work includes house managing at CPIP and Cincinnati Shakespeare, prop and set designer at The Carnegie (The Fabulous Fable Factory and The Grunch), Assistant Stage Manager at The Carnegie (Driving Miss Daisy), and CPIP wardrobe crew member (Cabaret and 4000 Miles). Jackie is excited for the opportunity to continue to teach Learning the Craft: Drama Workshop and Creative Toddling at TCTC!

Chris Stewart (Drama Workshop)

Chris Stewart Chris Stewart, actor-director-playwright-teaching-artist for The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, has taught drama/acting classes for Learning the Craft since the program began. Mr. Stewart works for The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati as the Associate Artistic Director of ArtReach, the tour which brings live theatre to schools and venues around the region. Hailing from Omaha, Nebraska, Chris is a proud alum of Hillsdale College in Michigan, and a local actor, director, playwright, and teacher. He met his lovely wife, Kari Stewart, during Disney’s Peter Pan JR., in which Chris played Peter and she played Wendy. He recently assistant directed TCTC's production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR., played Udo in The Snow Queen and will be featured as the Narrator in Disney’s Aladdin JR. this spring.  Recent acting credits: Awaited: A Christmas Show (Crossroads), Church Girls (Commonwealth Theatre Co.), Camelot (Carnegie Center), Don’t Cross the Streams: The Cease and Desist Musical, (Hugo West Theatricals). Directing credits: Anne Frank, The Night Before Christmas (ArtReach), Little Shop of Horrors, Arsenic and Old Lace, Zombie Prom (Roger Bacon High School), By the Rivers of Babylon (Cincinnati Playwrights Initiative). Playwriting credits: In the Shadows of Edison: The Nikola Tesla Story, The Sword in the Stone, The Frederick Douglass Story -- all for ArtReach: A Division of The Children's Theatre of Cincinnati . His two newest adaptations, The Night Before Christmas and The Wind in the Willows (with music by The Snow Queen composer/lyricist Stephen Goers), will tour with ArtReach this season. Chris is also a Teaching Artist for The Children’s Theatre’s STAR Program and WorkShops. Mr. Stewart was in the Edinburgh Fringe Festivals 2006-07 as an actor and press/marketing officer, and has performed in local shows at the Showboat, Commonwealth Theatre Company, and the Carnegie. His classes specialize in improvisation, classical and contemporary material, characterizations, and stagecraft.

Come learn the techniques and principles behind the art of musical theatre (drama, vocal music and dance) from the faculty at The Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati. Our classes are for ages 3 to 15 and are held at our brand new facility at 4015 Red Bank Road in Hyde Park!

About TCT Academy

The TCT Academy (formerly Learning the Craft) offers arts training to children in a variety of formats. The primary objective for these arts integrated classes is to provide students with the tools necessary to become successful adults.

Whether the students continue in an arts field or choose a different career path, the skills they develop in these programs can be leveraged and will last a lifetime.

We hold our classes in 12-week or 8-week sessions throughout the year. The class schedule may change slightly with student participation and/or teacher availability, but the session dates will not.

Beginner and intermediate classes are offered.  See online registration page for details.  Choose your child's age and desired time and our class options will be filtered for you.

Classes typically cost $250 per 12-week session and $175 per 8-week session, plus fees.

Maximum class capacity-15 students. Each class must have a minimum of 5 students or the class may be canceled for that session.

Please refrain from bringing gum, food, or drinks to class.

Private Lessons

Ages 6-18

We offer private lessons with our highly experienced teachers for one-on-one training.  You can schedule private lessons one at a time for $65 or get 4 lessons for $240.  To schedule a private lesson, please email Jay Goodlett or call 513.569.8080 x25.

Cost and Payment Information

  • Tuition encompasses a 12-week or 8-week session.  Individual classes cannot be purchased.
  • Students without payment will not be allowed to participate.
  • Session fee will not be prorated or refunded for absences
  • Makeup class vouchers will be given at the discretion of the instructor

Frequently Asked Questions

Procedures for Performing Arts Classes

  • Classes will be held at our new building at 4015 Red Bank Road, Cincinnati, OH 45227.
  • Students are to only be in the lobby/foyer, their assigned class studios and designated restrooms in the lobby.
  • Dance Bags, Coats and other articles brought by the students may only be placed in designated cubbies or in the studio.
  • No food or drinks are allowed in the studio except for water in a secure container.
  • Students are to “check in” with their teachers before class and wait in the lobby/foyer until their class takes place.
  • Students are required to “check out” with their teachers before leaving through the front entrance of the building with their parent/guardian. Children are not allowed to go out to the parking lot without adult supervision.
  • Please note, classes may be canceled and tuition refunded if there aren’t enough students enrolled in a specific class before a session begins.

How do I register my child for Classes?

Registration can be done online through TCTC’s website.  Online registration can be located here during registration times only.  If you are not registering online, you must contact Jay Goodlett for further instructions.

How do I register my child for the STAR Intensive NKU or STAR Camp Red Bank Programs?

Does my child need to have prior experience?

Certain classes have prerequisites, but there is an entry point for all ages.

How do I cancel my child’s registration?

Contact Jay Goodlett at 513.569.8080 x25 for cancellations. TCTC will issue a refund for cancellations less a $50 fee.

How big are the classes?

Class sizes range for our Classes.

Each class must have a minimum of 5 students (maximum class size is 15 students). The class may be canceled if it does not reach the minimum requirement. Mr. Jay Goodlett will decide if that class will be held or not. If class is canceled, you will be notifed by phone about other options (switching to a different day, different class etc.) If tuition was paid online you will be refunded; however, most students pay (by check or cash) at the first scheduled class.
For the STAR Intensive NKU Program, our classes range in size. A small class has approximately 18 students, while a large class has approximately 28 students.
For STAR Camp Red Bank, classes range from 30-35 students.

Are there payment plans available or scholarship opportunities?

At this time there are no alternative payment plans offered nor scholarship program options for TCT Academy classes.
For the STAR Intensive NKU and STAR Camp Red Bank Programs, a payment in full date will be specified upon acceptance into the program. If a student has a financial issue regarding payment in full and would like to request a payment plan, they should contact Pam Young at least 60 days prior to the first day of the program. Our six STAR Intensive NKU scholarships are awarded based on financial need. For more information on scholarships, contact Roderick Justice. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your spot in each program.

Are there performances at the end of STAR Intensive NKU, STAR Camp Red Bank, and/or other TCT Academy class sessions?

At the conclusion of each TCT Academy class session, there will be a performance to showcase the talents of the students.  The performance is the last class of the session held at their regularly scheduled time.  
STAR Intensive Red Bank has a culminating performance at the end which will take place on the campus of Northern Kentucky University in The Corbett Theatre.
STAR Camp Red Bank has a "showcase" on the last day of classes for immediate family members and/or guardians in our new building at 4015 Red Bank Road, Cincinnati, OH  45227.

Theatre Training Program

What is STAR Camp Red Bank?

STAR Camp Red Bank (formerly known as stARTs) is our program for gifted and talented students who are advanced in some areas of musical theatre and who have progressed beyond the basic levels of training.

For three weeks in June, a select number of students will work with leading professionals in the theater business to help them improve and become well-rounded performers in all areas of musical theatre. 

Classes will take place over the course of three weeks (Monday-Friday) from 9:30 AM to 4 PM. At the end of the third week there will be a culminating showcase for family members.

Tuition: $500

Security deposit of $50 due upon acceptance into the program.  Payment plans are available.

  • A memorized, age-appropriate monologue (1 minute MAX). It should showcase your acting skills.
  • A memorized 16-bar song selection that best shows your vocal range. Remember to bring your PIANO SHEET MUSIC for your song. An accompanist will be provided. The sheet music MUST have the piano part, not just the vocal line.
  • You may be asked to show us your dance ability, so come prepared. Wear appropriate shoes. No flip flops. Wear appropriate dance clothes please.
  • Upon online registration, please be sure to upload a RECENT 8x10 headshot and an UPDATED performance resume; however, please bring your headshot and resume with you to your audition in case we request a paper copy.
  • Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes ahead of your appointment for check-in.
  • If we are ahead of schedule, you may audition early.

STAR Intensive NKU

Stars That Are Rising

What is the STAR Intensive NKU program?

Our STAR Intensive NKU program (formerly the STAR Program) is a four-week training program for students, ages 9-18. Students are accepted by audition only and will be taught by experts in the various disciplines of Musical Theatre on the campus of Northern Kentucky University, from 10 AM to 4 PM each weekday.

Selected from STAR Intensive NKU, the STAR Cabaret is a group of 12-14 students who participate in year-round training and coaching.  Throughout the year, participants will mentor with our expert teaching staff to be well-rounded musical theatre artists, perform for local events, and will culminate in a trip to New York, Chicago, or LA to perform a showcase for directors, agents, and casting experts.

STAR Intensive NKU:  July 5 – July 31, 2016 at Northern Kentucky University

Tuition: $600

Security deposit of $150 due upon acceptance into the program.  Payment plans and scholarships are available.
