The Children's Theatre presents Aesop's Fables - Don't miss giant puppets and a Greek chorus!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 13, 2005

CINCINNATI, OH — The Children's Theatre continues its 81st season in March with Aesop's Fables which features giant puppets and a Greek chorus. Jack Louiso directs the production along with Mel Hatch of Madcap Puppet Theatre. The show is written by, and features the puppets of, Joe Kovacs, with incidental music by Terry Labolt. Aesop's Fables was last performed by The Children's Theatre in 1997.

While vacationing in Greece with his parents, Billy visits the statue of Aesop, the Great Fable Maker, who magically comes to life. With the help of a Greek chorus made up of fellow statues, Aesop shares his great, timeless lessons, with a modern and sometimes musical flair.

As you might remember, a fable is a short story or poem that teaches a lesson or moral. The characters in the fable are usually animals that act like humans. Our production of Aesop's Fables includes favorites like "The North Wind and The Sun," "The Crow and the Pitcher," "The Fox and the Grapes," "The Tortoise and the Hare," "The Fox and the Crow," "The Country Mouse and the City Mouse" and "The Boy Who Cried Wolf."

Plus we're proud to introduce a brand new fable - "The Bee and the Bear," written by Amanda Weiglein, a seventh grader at Nagel Middle School in the Forest Hills School District. Amanda's fable was selected from almost 90 Tri-State student submissions as The Children's Theatre's Fable Contest Winner. Her work will be produced on stage as part of this production.

Aesop's Fables is ideal for family, ideally with children ages 4+. It will be presented for the public on Friday, March 18, 2005 at 7:30 PM.; Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 2 PM and 5 PM; and Sunday, March 20, 2005 at 2 PM at the Taft Theatre, 5th and Sycamore Streets, in downtown Cincinnati.
