Student's Fable To Be Produced on Stage - Aesop's Fables winner announced
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 21, 2004
CINCINNATI, OH — The Children's Theatre presented a special award to Amanda Weiglein, a seventh grader at Nagel Middle School in the Forest Hills School District, last week.
During the 2003-2004 school year, The Children's Theatre held a contest for local Tri-state students in 3rd to 6th grade to submit original fables in the hopes that one would be selected to be produced. Amanda Weiglein's original fable, "The Bee and the Bear" was selected from almost 90 submissions to be produced on stage as part of The Children's Theatre production of Aesop's Fables in March 2005.
Amanda, now in seventh grade, won the contest. The award presentation was a total surprise - presented Ed McMahon Prize Patrol style! She received the award in front of her team of teachers and students - about 125 seventh graders.
"The Bee and the Bear" details the trials and tribulations of a group of animals trying to move a log in the forest. The moral of her story is: It doesn't matter how strong you are, brain power can overrule physical strength.
In 1997, the winning fable, "The Poor Old Mouse," was written by Wilson Elementary School fourth-grader, Krista Johnson.
