The Children's Theatre's Annie, Jr. - Sing along with Annie and discover the joy that tomorrow may bring

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 17, 2004

CINCINNATI, OH — The Children's Theatre continues its 81st season in December with Annie, Jr., an abbreviated version of one of America's best-loved musicals, designed with young audiences in mind.

Jack Louiso directs and choreographs the show; book by Thomas Meehan; music by Charles Strouse; lyrics by Martin Charnin; based on the comic strip "Little Orphan Annie" by Harold Gray. Annie, Jr. was last performed by The Children's Theatre in 1999.

At the end of Annie's first season on Broadway in 1977, it walked away with seven Tony Awards - for Best Musical, Best Actress, Best Score, Best Book, Best Choreography, Best Scenic Design and Best Costumes - among many other awards. The songs from Annie are classics today - It's The Hard-Knock Life, Tomorrow and You're Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile, plus many more.

Set in New York City in 1933, the story is about a plucky redheaded orphan named Annie who is taken into the home of the wealthy and politically influential Daddy Warbucks who helps her search for her parents. The characters, like Miss Hannigan, the tipsy spinster who runs the orphanage and Sandy the dog, are memorable and known to another generation of young people with the release of the movie Annie starring Albert Finney and Carol Burnett.

Annie, Jr. is ideal for family, ideally with children ages 4+. It will be presented for the public at the Taft Theatre on Friday, December 3 at 7:30 PM.; Saturday, December 4 at 2 PM and 5 PM; and Sunday, December 5 at 2 PM at the Taft Theatre, 5th and Sycamore Streets, in downtown Cincinnati.
