New Season of The Children's Theatre "A-Head" -- Series begins with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 9, 2004

CINCINNATI, OH — The Children's Theatre kicks off its 81st season in October with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, a funny, family, fall musical based on the original folk tale by Washington Irving. Jack Louiso directs the show, written by Melanie Marnich, which features original music by Cincinnati singer/songwriter/musician Katie Laur.

New, high-strung schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, has a terrible fear of ghosts and goblins. When a wealthy farmer's daughter, Katrina Van Tassel, takes a shine to Ichabod, Katrina’s longtime boyfriend, Brom Bones becomes very jealous. But when Brom realizes how scared Ichabod is of things that go bump in the night, he hatches a plan. And so the legend continues... This is a quirky, funny, musical version of the old American standard. Watch for the Headless Horseman to make his onstage appearance riding a live horse!

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was last performed by The Children’s Theatre in 1995. Ms. Marnich also wrote Jack and the Beanstalk (1993/94 Season), Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1994/95 Season), and Beethoven by Heart featuring the National Theatre of the Deaf (2000-2001 Season) for The Children’s Theatre.

The 2003/2004 season was a blockbuster for The Children’s Theatre. The organization played to its largest audiences ever - an estimated 130,000 children, teachers and parents - which includes audiences for Tom Sawyer: an original musical, produced at the Tall Stacks Music, Art and Heritage Festival. The Children’s Theatre also experienced a 45% increase in subscribers, for a final subscriber count of 2,653. Due to this ticket sale increase, a public performance is being added to each production this season: Saturdays at 5PM.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is ideal for family, ideally with children ages 5+. It will be presented for the public at the Taft Theatre on Friday, October 15 at 7:30 PM.; Saturday, October 16 at 2 PM and 5 PM; and Sunday, October 17 at 2 PM at the Taft Theatre, 5th and Sycamore Streets, in downtown Cincinnati.

Single tickets for each production are $18, $16, and $7 and will be available at all Ticketmaster outlets starting September 1, including Kroger locations, by calling (513) 562-4949, or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Enjoy the Arts/START and 20/20 Passport Discounts are available.

Subscriptions, reservations for school performances and group sales need to be made through The Children's Theatre Box Office at (513) 569-8080 ext. 10.

The Children’s Theatre also presents an additional 10 performances of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow for elementary and middle school students.
